We believe, that Security Locknuts are the BEST locknuts made. We are constantly striving for your satisfaction. To that end, we would ask that you please observe the following installation recommendations.
U.S. Standard
- Use Security Locknuts on class 2A external threads.
- Make sure that the bolt or stud has a proper (35º to 45º) chamfer on the threaded end and that the end is flat. The diameter of the flat should be approximately 1/32" below the root diameter of the thread on the bolt or stud. More information about the desired chamfer is available from the factory upon request (necessary only on certain fine thread custom made shafts. Otherwise, standard bolt chamfers are acceptable.)
- Power wrenching is NOT recommended until the lead thread of the insert is engaged by hand turning. Only after the initial hand installation should the nut be fully installed by hand or power wrench to the "pull down" position.
- DO NOT plate without our advise. We can supply several types of plating and finishes as required. Plating must be done at our factory prior to final assembly of the components.
- In order to assure proper engagement, it is desirable, but not absolutely necessary, to have at least 1 ½ threads extended beyond the top of the insert. The goal is to have the chamfer of the mating shaft extend beyond the top of the insert for proper engagement.
- Make sure all parts and threads are clean and undamaged, thereby insuring the best assembly.
- In order to assure even greater joint integrity, use of lubrication such as ANTI-SIEZE is recommended on all bolts and shafts to reduce frictional interference. Lubrication is especially important on diameters 1 ¼" and larger. Installation torques should be adjusted accordingly. (Normally reduce by about 20-25%). Specific help is available from your factory representative.
